metaphactory 4.4 introduces flexible data cataloging capabilities to experience data in context

We are excited to wrap up a fruitful 2021 by announcing the release of metaphactory 4.4 which comes with new data cataloging capabilities, a new look & feel, enhancements that further streamline the application building process, as well as a series of improvements that address end-user requirements and focus on providing a more intuitive user experience and interaction.

Data cataloging capabilities to experience data in context

Knowledge graphs excel at breaking down data silos by integrating information from heterogeneous datasets stored across disparate sources. While integrated data access already brings tremendous benefits for end users, dataset metadata can deliver additional and vital context information for end-user tasks and connecting this metadata with the knowledge graph can lead to traceable and trustful decision intelligence.

With the new data cataloging capabilities introduced in this release, metaphactory accommodates for this need by making dataset metadata itself an integral part of the connected knowledge graph. Based on open standards (e.g., DCAT, Dublin Core), these new capabilities allow knowledge graph engineers to easily create, manage, or import existing dataset metadata at integration time. This ultimately also eases knowledge graph maintenance since dataset context information is integrated into the lifecycle process right from the beginning.

Exposed in search interfaces, knowledge panels, and custom dashboards, the dataset context information becomes immediately accessible to end users and domain experts (such as biologists, bioinformaticians, chemists, engineers, service managers, data stewards, researchers, etc.) when interacting with the data.

Other features and improvements in metaphactory 4.4

  • New look & feel, incl. a reusable design system library that allows application engineers to build a consistent user experience with metaphactory and easily adapt the applications’ colors and styles to corporate style guidelines using a few CSS variables.
  • Advancements to ontology management, incl. the ability to convert OWL ontologies to SHACL and the ability to change the ontology identifier and element namespace.
  • Improvements to the semantic clipboard, incl. the ability to reuse entire sets from the clipboard via drag & drop into structured search. With these improvements, sets saved from previous searches or manually curated sets can now be easily reused to interactively build analytical searches. (The semantic clipboard was introduced in metaphactory 4.2 - learn more here »)
  • New node and edge interaction paradigm in all graph exploration and authoring components. A new context menu provides quick and coherent access to common actions such as expanding connections of a node or, for example, setting a node as a start node in the Pathfinder interface.
  • Enhancements to the templating system, incl. reusable template fragments and editor support.
  • Support for scatter plots in charts.
